SAA-C01 – AWS Certified Solutions Architect -Associate -Release Feb-2018
This post is for AWS Solutions Architect – Associate (Released February 2018) also known as SAA-C01.
- Define a solution using architectural design principles
- Provide implementation guidance based on best practices to the organization throughout the lifecycle of the project.
Who should take this exam:
Solution Architect, individuals who deploy hybrid systems with on-premises and AWS components, its useful for developers and SysOps as well. There is a Developer Associate which focuses more on development and SysOps more on Operations but still Developers & Ops should give this exam along with Developer/SysOps.
Certification cost: 150 USD
Number of Questions: 65 questions in 130 minutes
Multiple-choice: Has one correct response and three incorrect responses.
Multiple-response: Has two correct responses out of five options.
Score is between 100-1000, minimum passing score of 720. Scaled scoring models are used to equate scores across multiple exam forms that may have slightly different difficulty levels. 75+% is definitely a safe score.

Operational Excellence focuses on running and monitoring systems to deliver business value, continually improving processes and procedures. It also includes managing and automate changes, respond to events and define standards to successfully manage daily operations.
The security pillar focuses on protecting information & systems. Topics include confidentiality, integrity of data, identifying and managing who can do what with privilege management, protecting systems, and establishing controls to detect security events.
The reliability pillar focuses on the ability to prevent, and quickly recover from failures to meet business and customer demand. Key topics include foundational elements around setup, cross project requirements, recovery planning, and how we handle change.
The performance efficiency pillar focuses on using IT and computing resources efficiently. Key topics include selecting the right resource types and sizes based on workload requirements, monitoring performance, and making informed decisions to maintain efficiency as business needs evolve.
Cost Optimization focuses on avoiding un-needed costs. Key topics include understanding and controlling where money is being spent, selecting the most appropriate and right number of resource types, analyzing spend over time, and scaling to meet business needs without overspending.
